Clinical Pilates

At Port Melbourne Physiotherapy and Pilates we offer individual and small group
Clinical Pilates classes run by our trained physiotherapists

Clinical Pilates focuses on strengthening the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall core stability and posture. This enables more balanced, controlled and comfortable whole body movement. Clinical Pilates utilises equipment including Reformers and the Trapeze Table, which use spring resistance, as well as balance equipment and foam rollers. This allows a whole body workout to be achieved.

Our team of experienced Pilates instructors are also qualified physiotherapists, therefore can individually tailor a program to your specific needs. Whether its rehabilitation or purely a core strengthening program with a focus on fitness, we aim to assist you in achieving your goals.

Benefits of Pilates include:

  • Improved Postural Awareness
  • Deep Abdominal and Pelvic Floor Control
  • Co-ordination and Balance
  • Whole body strength and tone

Getting Started

Before attending classes you will first need to book an Initial Pilates Assessment. Your physio will undertake a detailed history and assessment, and then teach you the correct way to activate your core muscles using the Real Time Ultrasound. You will then commence your pilates program on the reformer machines. Depending on your experience level, injury or condition you may need to attend several one-on-one pilates sessions before booking into classes.

While Clinical Pilates is usually a safe form of exercise during pregnancy, you should always consult your GP or obstetrician before commencing exercise during pregnancy or to discuss your individual condition. Learn More

We offer individual Pilates sessions as well as small classes (up to 3 people per class).

Sessions are individualized and class sizes are restricted, to enable a safe exercise environment and to allow your physiotherapist to modify exercises as appropriate to you.

We also offer unsupervised Pilates sessions for individuals who have previously participated in Pilates classes and are confident in the use of the equipment.
